Product Care, Washing & Repairs
Looking after your Fortis kit properly is essential to getting the best performance and longest life out of it.
From washing and reproofing to repairs and aftercare, this guide covers everything you need to keep your gear working as it should, season after season.
Washing Your Fortis Clothing
Correct washing is one of the most important and most overlooked parts of maintaining your kit.
We recommend:
- Use a non-bio detergent
- Wash on a gentle 30°C cycle
- Use a spin speed no higher than 600rpm
High temperatures or aggressive cycles can cause:
- Colour fading
- Damage to waterproof membranes
- Reduced garment performance
Drying:
Always allow your clothing to drip dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying unless specifically stated, as excessive heat can damage fabrics and coatings.
Reproofing & Water Repellency
Over time, waterproof garments will lose their ability to repel water. This is completely normal and easily restored.
You may need to reproof your kit when:
- Water stops beading on the surface
- Fabric begins to “wet out” in light rain
Pay close attention to high-wear areas such as:
- Shoulders
- Seams
- Elbows and knees
- Creases and friction points
For best results, we recommend using Fortis® Water Repellent Spray, as other products may be less effective or damage the material.
How to reproof:
- Wash the garment
- Allow it to fully dry
- Apply the spray evenly
- Leave to dry again
This process restores water repellency and keeps your kit performing like new.
Repairs & Product Longevity
At Fortis, we don’t believe in fast fashion, we build products to last.
If your kit needs attention, we offer a repair service to extend its life. Whether it’s:
- Repairing tears
- Replacing linings
- General wear and restoration
Our team will assess your garment and provide a quote before any work is carried out.
Typical repair costs range from £10–£100, depending on the work required.
If an item has reached the end of its usable life, we may offer a discount on a replacement and can recycle or return your old garment.
To arrange a repair or return, you must complete the Fortis® Returns Form before sending any items back.
